Discover the stunning lakeside position in the center of downtown. The historic Kelowna Yacht Club, Canada’s biggest fresh-water marina, is the best destination to mingle in elegance, get active on the lake, and strengthen our community.

The Kelowna Yacht Club is much more than a beautiful marina with over 1,000 boat spaces. With roots stretching back decades, they have established themself as a community staple that goes far beyond boating and socializing. They are a non-profit organization that is heavily active in a variety of activities that benefit the community of Kelowna, BC.

In 1945, a group of boating enthusiasts convened to explore the formation of a club and the promotion of boating in Kelowna. There were no docks or launch ramps on Okanagan Lake at the time. The first launch boat was constructed near the existing moorage basin. In 1946, the Kelowna Yacht Club was incorporated and granted a charter by the province of British Columbia. At the time, the group had a little more than 60 members.

The original CKOV radio station, 1414, was moved on-site and acquired for $150. The club’s membership continues to rise, and docks are being constructed to meet the increased demand for moorage. With the opening of Kelowna’s distinctive floating bridge, the city began to grow fast. As more residents join the Kelowna Yacht Club, interest in the club grows.

The refurbished Kelowna Yacht Club clubhouse is now open to accommodate a bigger number of members. It has served the club well over many decades, additions, and renovations. At this stage in 1965, approximately 300 boats could be moored in the basins. Throughout the 1970s, the club expanded, and so did the moorage basins. The breakwater required extensive repair and enlargement, and a plan was in place for a four-year reconfiguration and expansion of the moorage basins. The objective was to have 500 available slips.

Reaching almost 600 members at this time, the club also began to add electricity and water system on the docks.

By the year 2000, there were approximately 550 moorage slips and over 800 members. The introduction of sailing youth and educational programs began, and the community responded enthusiastically.

Meikeljohn Architects Ltd completed the magnificent wood spiral staircase in the middle of the clubhouse in early 2015. The building partners 40 Woodworks and Sawchuk development, as well as Meikeljohn Architects Ltd, earned top industry honors for their efforts. Southern Interior Construction Association Commercial Building Awards bestowed several awards on the Kelowna Yacht Club. Year 2020, the club celebrated 75 years on water.
